Support a ban of landfills in unincorporated Cook County! On April 17th, the Cook County Board of Commissioners will consider an ordinance to stop landfills in unincorporated areas of Cook County. Illinois currently has a law on the books that prevents any new or currently closed landfills from operating in Cook County. Unfortunately, the law preventing landfill operations is at risk because the waste industry is actively working to eliminate the restrictions so they can once again operate landfills in our neighborhood.
